HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Our course includes teaching you how to recognise and respond to an emergency situation, provide basic life support such as CPR, use a defibrillator (AED), and apply appropriate first-aid techniques. You will also learn about the legal requirements for providing first aid in your workplace and best practices for effective accident prevention.

You will learn how to communicate details of the incident to emergency response services and workplace supervisors. Evaluate and debrief appropriately following the incident.

Learn principles and procedures for first aid management of the following scenarios:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries
  • Respiratory distress, including asthma
  • Fractures
  • Dislocations
  • Crush Injuries
  • Shock Bleeding
  • Unconsciousness
  • Envenomation
  • Face-to-face practical session (4.5 hours duration)

Requirements

To successfully complete this course, you must:

  • Individuals who wish to enrol in the course must be at least 14 years of age. If they are between 14 and 17, a signed consent form from their parent or guardian is needed to confirm that they have permission to attend class and fulfil all theoretical and practical components of the program.
  • Possess the literacy skills required to read and understand legal signs, cautionary symbols, and instructions for using supplies related to first aid response such as protective face shields and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
  • Have the ability to generate a comprehensive Incident Report in the workplace.
  • Have the ability to quickly and accurately do computations concerning chest compressions frequency and rescue breathing rate.
  • Have the capability to articulate information clearly and accurately to emergency responders and workplace supervisors in order to generate precise verbal reports.
  • Have the physical ability to meet the following evidence requirements:
    • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and breaths) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
    • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and breaths) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface
