Overview

This Confined Space training course covers WHS policies and procedures, entering and working in confined spaces, local risk management and operating breathing apparatus in resources and infrastructure industries. If you need to work safely in enclosed or partially enclosed spaces held at atmospheric pressure this Confined Space training course will give you the skills you need.  This course meets the requirements of State/Territory WHS Regulators and Australian Standard AS 2865-2009.

Participants who pass the assessment will receive a Statement of Attainment acknowledged by the Australian Qualifications Framework. This accreditation is recognised across Australia. The Statement is issued by ModSkills+ Talented Training (RTO 45144).

National Unit of Competency

RIIWHS202E – Enter and work in confined spaces

  • Plan and prepare for working in confined space by meeting safety requirements and establishing safety procedures and gathering appropriate tools
  • Work in confined space, monitoring the atmosphere for harmful elements and maintaining ongoing communication with standby personnel
  • Exit confined space safely, including recovery of tools and equipment and final assessment of the confined space
  • Clear up work area and clean and store equipment appropriately
  •  Identifying areas that constitute confined spaces
  •  Complying with site and equipment safety requirements
  • Adhering to appropriate entry and exit procedures Identifying equipment types, capabilities and limitations
  • Understanding types of air contaminants and toxic gases
  • There are a few prerequisites that must be met:
    • Minimum 18 years of age
    • Basic knowledge and understanding of English (written and verbal)
    • Have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills
    • Provide three (3) matching original evidence of identity documents (see this link and read the “What types of evidence do I need to provide?” section above for details)
    • Please note that arriving without this ID will result in you being turned away from the course
    • Arrive in suitable PPE: Safety boots, long pants and a high-vis shirt
    • Complete the pre-course study and assessment questions

     

    Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN)

    • If English is your second language, you must advise us at the time of booking. Contact our Sales and Service Team on 07 3375 5822 to determine your eligibility to undertake this training. We will assist you in any way we can, but due to the demands of the assessment process, do not guarantee that every applicant will possess the level of LLN required for the assessment.
    • You will require at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills. If you have any doubts, please let us know so we can assist you.
    • The Regulator does not allow an interpreter to be used during the mandated formal assessment.

     

    Pre-Course Study and Assessment

    To increase your chance of success, mandatory pre-course study and an online assessment (totalling about three hours) are required. The link to begin this study will be provided when you book the course.
