Overview

The Standard 11 (Surface) training course meets the legislative requirements of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 and is mandatory for all coal mine workers in Queensland. This nationally recognised course provides essential safety and operational knowledge for working in surface coal mining environments.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a Statement of Attainment for RIISS00034 – Surface Coal Mine Safety Skill Set, which is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. Training and assessment are delivered on behalf of ModSkills Talented Training RTO 45144

This comprehensive course covers essential safety and operational procedures required for working in surface coal mining operations. Our experienced trainers ensure you develop the necessary skills and knowledge to work safely and effectively in the mining industry.

The course covers these nationally recognised units:

  • RIICOM201E – Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIERR205D – Apply initial response First Aid
  • RIIERR302E – Respond to local emergencies and incidents
  • RIIGOV201E – Comply with site work processes/procedures
  • RIIRIS201E – Conduct local risk control
  • RIIWHS201E – Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
  • Two-day intensive course
  • Combines classroom-based theory and practical training
  • Assessment conducted throughout the course

To participate in the Standard 11 course, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have adequate English language, literacy, and numeracy skills
  • Provide valid photo identification
  • Wear appropriate PPE including steel-capped boots, long pants, and long-sleeved shirt
  • Complete any pre-course materials provided upon enrolment

 

Pre-Course Preparation

  • Students will receive access to pre-course study materials upon enrolment
  • Pre-reading and familiarisation with mining terminology is recommended
  • Students should review the provided course materials before attending

 

The course fee includes all learning materials and assessment fees. Group bookings and onsite training options are available upon request.

 

Note: This course is an essential requirement for working in Queensland coal mines but does not guarantee employment. Additional site-specific inductions and a Coal Board Medical may be required by employers.
