HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Overview

The purpose of this course is to provide the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Students will develop the skills and knowledge to respond to an emergency situation, perform CPR procedures, communicate details of an incident and review an incident. They will learn how to manage, in line with the ARC guidelines, unconscious casualties, both breathing and non-breathing, as well as how to hand them over to emergency services.

Participants who pass the assessment will receive a Statement of Attainment acknowledged by the Australian Qualifications Framework. This accreditation is recognised across Australia. The Statement is issued by ModSkills+ Talented Training (RTO 45144).

National Unit of Competency

HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Proper assessment of emergency situations
  • Implementation of DRSABCD protocol
  • CPR techniques for adults and infants
  • Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Assessment and movement of injured casualties
  • Legal responsibilities of a first aider
  • Basic anatomy and physiology, among other relevant topics.

Pre-course study (Online Tutorials): 1 – 2 Hours, plus
Face to Face Training & Assessment: 2 hours (this may be reduced or extended dependent upon the student’s prior experience and uptake of skills and knowledge)

For quality purposes, the RTO must determine the amount of training it provides to each participant.

There are a few prerequisites that must be met:

  • We do not recommend participants under the age of 14
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of English (written and verbal)
  • Arrive in suitable PPE: Safety boots, long pants and a high-vis shirt
  • Complete the pre-course study and assessment questions

 

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN)

  • If English is your second language, you must advise us at the time of booking. Contact our Sales and Service Team on 07 3375 5822 to determine your eligibility to undertake this training. We will assist you in any way we can, but due to the demands of the assessment process, do not guarantee that every applicant will possess the level of LLN required for the assessment.
  • You will require at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills. If you have any doubts, please let us know so we can assist you.
  • The Regulator does not allow an interpreter to be used during the mandated formal assessment.
