Overview

The Health and Safety Representative (HSR) 5-day training course is approved by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and meets legislative requirements under the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011. As a newly elected HSR, you must complete this training within 28 days of your election to fulfill your role effectively.

Our experienced trainers deliver engaging, practical training that equips you with the knowledge and skills needed to represent your workgroup’s health and safety interests. Training takes place in our comfortable, air-conditioned facilities in Brisbane.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a WorkSafe Queensland Health and Safety Representative Training Statement of Attendance. This training satisfies the requirements of section 21 of the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011.

This comprehensive course provides essential knowledge and practical skills for Health and Safety Representatives. Key topics covered include:

  • WHS legislative framework and terminology
  • Role and functions of HSRs and Health and Safety Committees
  • Consultation requirements and mechanisms
  • Hazard identification and risk control principles
  • Incident notification and investigation processes
  • Powers and functions of HSRs, including issuing Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs)
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution strategies
  • Rights and protections available to HSRs
  • Five-day program (can be delivered as consecutive days or one day per week over five weeks)
  • Regular breaks provided throughout the day

Participants must:

  • Be an elected Health and Safety Representative
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have adequate English language, literacy and numeracy skills
  • Provide three forms of identification
  • Wear appropriate clothing and enclosed footwear

Note: Employers must allow HSRs paid time to attend this training and cover the associated costs as per WHS legislation. HSRs are also entitled to annual refresher training after completing the initial course.
