Overview

Our working at heights course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to safely and competently enter and work safely at heights in accordance with Australian standards, focusing on fall prevention, rather than fall arrest. You will learn how to develop safe work method statements and risk assessments while working at heights. Ideal for a range of occupations, including roofers, electricians and construction workers.

Participants who pass the assessment will receive a Statement of Attainment acknowledged by the Australian Qualifications Framework. This accreditation is recognised across Australia. The Statement is issued by ModSkills+ Talented Training (RTO 45144).

National Unit of Competency

RIIWHS204E – Work safely at heights

This nationally recognised course covers the theoretical and practical aspects of working at height and will assist you in developing safe work method statements and risk assessments. All workers who conduct or supervise tasks while at height will find this course beneficial to workplace safety. This course will enable you to comply with current WHS legislation, and successful trainees will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

Training can be done either at your work site or at one of our dedicated training facilities that are off-site. Work at heights training emphasizes fall prevention instead of fall arrest. In other words, it is designed to give workers the ability to safely work in any height situation–primarily construction, maintenance, mining large factories, and so on–where there is a potential for falling from one level to another.

  • Identify work requirements, inspecting the site and adhering to WHS requirements
  • Identify and prepare work procedures and instructions
  • Access and install equipment, including personal protective equipment, safety systems and fall protection
  • Perform work at heights, including handling of equipment and maintaining appropriate risk control
  • Clean up work area and safe storage of tools and equipment
  • Assessing hazards and risk associated with working at heights
  • Fitting, adjusting and anchoring of fall protection and associated equipment Identifying and implementing required safety systems
  • Wearing and caring for personal protective equipment
  • Working safely at heights according to relevant legislation
  • There are a few prerequisites that must be met:
    • Minimum 18 years of age
    • Basic knowledge and understanding of English (written and verbal)
    • Have at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills
    • Provide a form of photo identification (ID)
    • Please note that arriving without this ID will result in you being turned away from the course
    • Arrive in suitable PPE: Closed shoes, long pants recommended

     

    Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN)

    • If English is your second language, you must advise us at the time of booking. Contact our Sales and Service Team on 07 3375 5822 to determine your eligibility to undertake this training. We will assist you in any way we can, but due to the demands of the assessment process, do not guarantee that every applicant will possess the level of LLN required for the assessment.
    • You will require at least a Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills. If you have any doubts, please let us know so we can assist you.
